Back To Work

Going back to work on Monday morning (today) was a bit of a letdown, after such an excellent weekend. There was lots to do today at work and it was interesting and I got a lot done, so it was a good day at work. But I didn’t really feel like it. I spent the day in the shop, so I got home reeking of cutting oil. I have to be careful if I pick up Micah because that stuff on my clothes gives him a rash.
After supper I lay on the floor in the living room and read the boys a story. I was so tired I had trouble keeping my eyes open between sentences. When I finished the book I set it aside, put my head down on the floor, and closed my eyes. This prompted immediate howls of protest: “You can’t go to sleep Daddy!” Oh no? Watch me! Daniel then declared, “You’re a climbing frame, Daddy.” And proceeded to clamber all over me. Joel didn’t hesitate to join in the fun. So I had two boys with sharp little elbows and digging little feet and hard heads using me as a custom playground. But I didn’t care. I had such a powerful urge to examine the inside of my eyelids that I could more or less ignore the boisterous world around me. I felt sympathy for those lions on nature videos, trying to sleep while cubs nip at their ears and paw at their faces. Debbie took pity on me and carted them off to the library, leaving me in peace for twenty minutes.
Monday. Back to work. A good day, but I’m looking forward to next weekend already.
