Today I got a replacement for my right contact. No charge. The old one gave me 20/40 vision, while the new one gives me 20/25 vision. 20/40 means that I see at 20 feet what people with normal eyesight see at 40 feet. The old contact was better than nothing, but not very good. The new one is pretty good. Not perfect, but quite alright.

The fancy contact in my left eye gives me 20/20 vision. I’ve spent two weeks getting used to the new contacts and they’re pretty comfortable now. My eyesight is better than it has been in years. I enjoyed the drive home from the optometrist in the late afternoon sun, marveling at the sharp, crisp detail in the trees, street signs, buildings, number plates. I’m very thankful.

PS: Yes, that’s my eye in the photo. The fluorescent ring light I used for illumination is reflected off my eyeball.
