Gotta Rush! Bye!

Half a year’s projects are all due Friday next week. Normally projects are staggered so I only have to deal with one closing at a time. But this week they plotted together to end all at once.
This actually didn’t come as a surprise. We’ve known the due dates for months. In fact, we knew when we had to finish before we even started. My problem is that my part comes in right at the end of the schedule. At the moment I have one project that I’m scheduled to be on for three weeks, and the previous stage is only just complete. So theoretically my three weeks start tomorrow. The machine was due a week ago but has been pushed back to Friday next week. People are yelling at me because it’s late.
I have another project handed over to me yesterday that is also due next Friday. I have one to two weeks scheduled for it. That’s in addition to the three weeks for the first project. People are yelling at me because they expect it to be late, despite all my assurances that it’ll be right on time (just).
There’s a third project that’s still mostly only framework. Other departments have two or three weeks of assembly left before they’re done and I can start. Normally they’d take six weeks but we’re in a rush. When they finish I have one to two weeks scheduled. It is also due next Friday. People are yelling at me because we’re hopelessly late and I haven’t even started.
Finally, there’s a fourth project (also due next Friday) that has been sitting complete for the past month. It’s just waiting to be packed up. People are grumbling at me about that one on principle, although they’d really rather be yelling but can’t find an excuse.
I’m tempted to tell everybody that a lack of planning on your part doesn’t constitute an emergency on my part, but the weather is hot, tempers are running high, and I’m afraid I’d get socked.
Today I got asked if I could also work evenings and weekends. Sigh! Who’d want to work for a living?
So if you have a moment, pray for me. Pray for strength of body for the long hours; for strength of mind for the stress and pressure; and for strength of character to not lose my temper at all the grumpy people who keep yelling I’m late.
