From the Frying Pan to the Fire

Got home tonight from two days away installing a machine. Long hours on the road. Had a late dinner, put the boys to bed, and then went to work sanding the bathroom wall. Things went well, but then right at the end I mucked it up and the project was set back a day. We have people coming to stay with us on Sunday, and a day’s setback is critical at this late date. It would be good to have a working bathroom for our visitors, rather than offering them the bucket. “Here’s the bucket. Fill it with warm water. Here’s some soap. Try not to splash.” Not a good impression, I’m afraid.
The time pressure on the machine installation has been pretty intense. I got a phone call from the customer just before I went to put the boys to bed, asking me how to fix a problem that had cropped up. I’ll have to sort it out first thing in the morning. More pressure.
And then there’s the time pressure to get the bathroom finished. Sigh! And of course there is the family to take care of. Sometimes I wish I could barricade myself inside my own little castle, safe from the hordes that clamor at the gates. Escape from reality? Sounds good! Live as a hermit in a cave on a mountaintop? Perfect! (As long as I have hot & cold running water, coffee, and an internet connection.)
But then there’s real life. Lots of joys. Lots of difficulties.
