A Touch of Colour

Add Colour

We’re on the home stretch now. This morning I touched up some cracks with polyfiller. As soon as I got home from work this evening I sanded the polyfiller and painted a second coat of primer. Several hours later I applied the first coat of colour. Tomorrow I’ll add a second coat of colour, and then I’m done. I can remove all the debris of construction, wash the floor, the sink, the tub and the toilet, and we have our normal bathroom back. The new paint will be dry in six hours, but we must not get it wet for ten days. So it’s baths only for a little while longer.

I was looking back to the photo of my first evening’s work. Ten days ago. It’s taken a long time, for such a small job. Of course, in the interim we’ve been involved with a three-day youth retreat, and I had two days away at a customer’s factory. And there’s regular employment, and looking after the kids. What a busy life.

Today we were all sick. Daniel’s getting over a cold. Joel’s at the peak of misery of his cold. So is Micah. Debbie’s feeling ill and having to take care of the boys. I caught a stomach bug on the weekend, and have been feeling nauseous. It was a struggle to complete two painting sessions tonight, the first set to the background tune of screaming kids. There’s not much to paint, but setting up and cleaning up take time. Oh well. Keep moving forward.

Yesterday the compact fluorescent bulb burnt out in the bathroom, so today I bought a new one. They didn’t have any of the same brand or model as the old one, so I got something of a similar size and wattage. The old one had a yellow cast, similar to an incandescent bulb. The new one has a blue / white cast, and gives better colour rendering. Despite manual white-balancing on all the pictures, you can see the colour difference between tonight’s photo and the earlier ones.
