When I was a kid, I read an article about Niagara Falls. There were lots of pictures. For a moment it transported me away to a world of imagination. What a marvelous sight that would be. And in such an exotic, far-away place–Canada! But I was a kid, and Niagara Falls was far beyond any trips I or my family would ever take. So the dream was tucked away in that compartment of the brain reserved for the impossible fancies of childhood.

Many years passed.

A couple of days ago I visited Niagara Falls, for the umpteenth time, and marveled once again at the beauty and majesty and power of it. It was even better than I had dreamed of, in those long-ago days. Repeated visits do not diminish its appeal. I was there with a couple of friends, Bruce and Brenda. Brenda said, a couple of times, “I never thought I’d get to see this.” I understood exactly what she meant, and relived the thrill of a dream fulfilled.
