My friend David asked me to photograph his family. His extended family. There’s David, his wife, and two small children. His sister-in-law, her husband, and their baby. His father-in-law and father-in-law’s sister. Are you with me still? Let’s see: that’s six adults and three children. They all want to be in the same picture.

I visited the Great Wall of China once, and managed to get everybody in the picture. But it’s hard to tell who’s who. And several years ago we crammed my immediate family (and some spouses) into one picture, in a studio, no less. There were ten adults. So it can be done.

Right now I’m racking my brain trying to figure out where we’re going to do this. And with what background. And how to arrange the bodies. And how to illuminate. It’s a challenge. It’ll all to come to a delightfully picturesque conclusion this Sunday.
