I now have Daniel’s cold. And I have a long day at work tomorrow, 14 hours or so. Debbie is not doing any better. She has come down with the cold as well, as have Joel and Micah. And Micah is cutting a second tooth, sharing his misery at length and at volume. Daniel is now the cheeriest of us all (which isn’t saying much). What a sorry state we’re in!

On the plus side, the boys had their swimming lesson tonight. We’d been debating whether to take them or keep them home, seeing as they’re sick. Both boys insisted they wanted to go swimming, and I questioned Joel carefully about it. Last week he had not participated in the class at all. Too scared. But today he assured me he’d do everything the instructor said. So I took them both, with much trepidation.

They both enjoyed their class. Joel was very cooperative and involved. He shivered throughout, however, and I wondered what kind of a parent I was to put a sick child in a swimming pool. A bad one, obviously, even though it was a heated pool. But we all arrived home happy. The boys had a snack and went straight to bed.

I wish I could do the same. But a screaming baby dictates otherwise.
