The Suite Life

Suite Lounge

It turns out that the motel was overbooked, so the room that had been reserved for me was not available. As a result, I was upgraded to a suite at no extra cost. It took me by surprise when I opened the door: a living room as big as the one at home, with a couple of oversize leather couches, a big-screen TV, a desk and a kitchenette. Space! Lots and lots of space!

Then there was the bedroom. The bed was huge, as usual, with another big TV sitting on the dresser. Separated from the bed by a large expanse was a jacuzzi big enough to fit our entire five-person family all at once. The bathroom proper had two separate sections, one with a counter and mirror, and the other with sink, toilet and shower.

Much to Debbie’s disappointment I didn’t try the jacuzzi. I was tired and didn’t have the patience to wait for it to fill (and then drain). Instead, the shower was satisfyingly hot and high pressure, and it was nice to know that I could have had a luxury bath if I wanted to, even if I didn’t actually use it.

It was an excellent room, all the more so because it was unexpected. It made up a little for having to be away from home and my family. I only wish Debbie could have been there to share it with me, on a romantic weekend get-away with no kids. Instead, there I was, alone on a work trip. There’s dreams and then there’s life.
