A week ago I wondered how, as a family, we could recapture the true Spirit of Christmas. I mentioned it at church on Sunday morning, and after the service Andy suggested I hold a neighbourhood carol sing: Invite the neighbours in to sing Christmas carols around the piano. Be a witness in our community. Share the joy that God sent his Son to the world because he loved us. An excellent idea. So we’ll probably do it on the 14th (Friday, in a couple of weeks).

On Monday Eleanore, one of my blog readers, suggested an advent family devotional book, with activities for the days leading up to and following Christmas. An excellent idea. She had a spare copy, which is now sitting on our kitchen counter. We’ll start it on Sunday.

Look at the sequence of events: I felt a spiritual need, asked, and I received. Simple as that. This blog helped me articulate the need. The church community, the family of God, helped meet the need. The Lord directed. Despite all the ways I complicate my faith, living by the Spirit is really quite simple.

May the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Creator of all, Author of life, Saviour, Redeemer, bless you and your family this Christmas as you seek the One whom we celebrate.
