Christmas Carols

We had invited several of our neighbours to come sing Christmas carols with us tonight. I printed up some song sheets, Debbie made snacks, we hurried the boys through their dinner and rushed around tidying up. And nobody came. I didn’t know whether to be relieved or disappointed.
So we gathered our three children around the piano and sang carols for about twenty minutes. That is to say, Micah crawled around on the rug looking for power cords to chew with his new tooth. Joel stood and gazed longingly at the snacks on the table, quietly creeping up when he thought no one was looking. Daniel made his best attempt at reading the words and following along, but it’s difficult to read and keep in time while singing unfamiliar tunes (unfamiliar to a three-year-old). Debbie and I did the actual singing.
Then we sat the boys up at the table and had a family snack. Chocolate-covered cranberries, cheese on crackers, chocolate chip slice, blueberry juice. It was nice. Very festive. The kids were happy and content, the house was quiet and peaceful. It’s Christmas soon.
Photo note: This is not a picture of our living room. But all those people are actually singing Christmas carols.
