Cookie Art

We decorated cookies with the church young people. It’s always fun to see the results; the process is also quite entertaining. There are bags of icing sugar in different colors (“frosting” for you Americans), and little bowls of decorations. In the jovial, festive atmosphere it doesn’t take much to go from decorating cookies to decorating faces. And that can become quite messy. So the trick is to make sure everybody is having fun, but not having too much fun.
This year’s decorating event was further improved by the use of gingerbread cookies that also doubled as lethal weapons. Debbie had made a batch of cookies that looked perfect and wonderful and smelled delicious, but were hard as rocks. Even trying to crack off an edge with your back teeth didn’t work very well. You sort of had to drool on them for a bit to soften them, and then try to chomp.
It was too late to make another batch. What to do? She phoned her friend Marg and they discussed. The conclusion was that Debbie would send her cookies anyway, because at least they could be decorated (and used as tree ornaments?) and that Marg would make a new batch. Good plan. At least, it was a good plan, right up until someone tried to take a bite of a new cookie. Solid. Gingerbread men with +100 invulnerability.
Contrary to what you might think, this just made the event all the more entertaining. Soon there were competitions to find the hardest cookies, and then eat them. By the end of the evening more than half the cookies were gone. Eaten. Just think what you can achieve with good spin and a competitive spirit.
