I’m mentally gearing up for travel. I have a road trip tomorrow, a weekend jaunt to LA on Thursday, and then a somewhat longer stay in Hungary in about three weeks. Road trips are pretty easy, as long as the weather cooperates. Flying takes quite a lot more organization. I have to book a shuttle to the airport, make sure I pack carry-on and checked luggage according to all the rules, worry that I won’t have the right clothing, or that I’ll take too much.
The weekend trip is ideal for taking only a carry-on. Unfortunately, according to TSA rules I can’t take my toothpaste or my contact lens solutions in my carry-on. I suppose I could leave it all behind and buy what I need when I get there. But it’ll be late when I arrive, and I’ll have to navigate unfamiliar streets to find a store that has what I need. So instead I’ll put up with the hassle and check a bag.
Still, despite all the stresses I’m looking forward to flying. Long, boring, uncomfortable hours, but I enjoy it.
