Daniel wants a Lightning McQueen birthday cake. Here’s a picture to remind you of the detail involved with decorating such a cake. I’ve been trying to convince Miss Perfectionist Debbie that it doesn’t have to be a faithful reproduction, that a rough approximation will do. But I might as well be talking to the cake ingredients for all the effect I’m having. Needless to say, there’s an elevated level of stress regarding how such a cake will be baked and shaped and decorated. I’m curious to see how it will turn out. Probably way better than I envisioned, yet worse than Debbie hoped.

Late this afternoon the furnace repair guy stopped by and brought a flicker of hope to our cold existence. There’s an override switch on the flue damper that allows the furnace to cycle normally while the damper is stuck open. So we lose some heat up the chimney, but at least we have a warm house again. And it’s just a temporary measure until proper repairs can be made. Simple, once you know what to do.
