Getting Things Done. Slowly.

Red Peppers

The three non-sick family members went grocery shopping this morning. I took Daniel and Joel with me, giving Debbie and Micah a break from the usual Saturday morning clamor. At lunch I mentioned that I had some errands I wanted to run, and floated the possibility of again taking the two older boys. Debbie had a better idea: she wanted to come too. Yes, she was sick. Yes, that would mean taking the baby, who was also sick. But the lure of an afternoon out on the town for house-bound Mum was too strong.

So we bundled up warmly against the winter cold and set out with a to-do list. Joel and Micah soon fell asleep, and spent the whole afternoon sleeping in their car seats. Good for them. They would have been more comfortable in their beds at home. However, Joel refuses to nap, so this worked out very well. The sleeping children meant that only one of us could go into a shop while the other sat in the car and waited. That suited me just fine. It was sunny and quiet in the car. I got to have a little doze of my own, reclined in my seat.

Daniel was energetic and cheery as ever. Not having siblings around meant no arguments or conflicts. Being used to three children, we forget how easy it is with just one. He was the only one in the family that got to do everything, go everywhere.

In summary it was a slow, easy day. Restful. And yet we enjoyed the satisfaction of getting a lot done.
