Reading in Bed

Things at home are slowly returning to normal. Debbie and the boys are recovering from their illness and everybody feels a whole lot better. Everybody except me: I promptly caught the family cold as soon as I got back. I started getting the first tingles a couple of days ago, and by now those twitches have evolved into full-blown sneezes, coughs, headache, dizziness and general malaise. Don’t underestimate the full-blown-ness of those sneezes. I feel like crawling into bed for a couple of days, but instead I’m surviving on Tylenol Cold & Sinus.

I had to prepare a message for Youth Group tonight, so I left work after lunch. Leaving early suited my sickness. Preparing a message didn’t. Nevertheless, once I started working on it I got absorbed into the plot and forgot all about being sick, so that was OK.

It started to snow this afternoon and the forecast called for a massive snowstorm. It was still snowing when I left for Youth Group in the evening, but didn’t seem worthy of the dire warnings. Just gentle flakes drifting down out of the dark sky. Maybe the threat of bad weather kept people home, because it was a small group tonight. Convivial. Comfortable. Once again I forgot I was sick and enjoyed the evening.

Tonight’s message was from John 4:45-54, where Jesus heals a royal official’s son.
