Snow Day

When I dug out the driveway last night, my intent was to make sure we could leave this morning to go to church. Before setting out, however, we got a phone call to tell us the morning’s service was canceled. Everybody was still digging themselves out from yesterday’s snowfall. We live on a main street that gets plowed promptly, but many in the congregation live on side streets that hadn’t been attended to yet. So they couldn’t even go anywhere once they cleared their driveway.
It was a beautiful day, sunny, clear and calm. I took Daniel and Joel outside to play. The boys proceeded to pull snow from the snowbanks onto the nice clean driveway. I dug a tunnel through the highest of the snowbanks, big enough for the boys to crawl through. From time to time I’d grab a boy by heel and hand and toss him through the air into deep snow, amidst peals of laughter. Joel had difficulty digging himself out and soon decided this was a bit too advanced for him. Daniel didn’t care. He was eager to get thrown as often as I was willing to throw him (oh, my sore muscles). Soon the yard was pocked with craters from falling boys. We had fun.
Photo note: the snowbank behind Daniel is about three feet high, and extends another two feet or so beneath him. We had a lot of snow.
