Take me out for a romantic dinner

Spoon-fed

Debbie phoned me at work this afternoon: she was just too exhausted to prepare tonight’s dinner. She had something for the kids, but couldn’t we do something special, just the two of us?

Of course we could. I phoned a restaurant we like and ordered one of our favourite meals, for pick-up. By the time I got home with our dinner wafting fragrantly from the bag, Debbie had fed the boys and they were off playing happily. She and I sat down in (relative) peace and quiet to eat a yummy meal we didn’t have to prepare. We could take our time eating. There were no insistent voices to interrupt our chatting. Sure, we were in our own home, sitting at our own table, but it felt like going out to eat. It was nice.

Micah came by at one point, wanting to sample whatever it was we were eating. So we sat him in his high chair and mostly ignored him, feeding him tiny pieces of garlic bread every time he sang out for more. He provided the live entertainment to our dinner date.
