Oh noes!

After a few months of nothing much to do, it looks like we’ll be super-busy at work from now until the fall. A good six months of solid work. Nothing wrong with that. We’re bringing in a whole bunch of contractors to help out with the rush. The problem is we have nowhere to put them. In the toilet stalls? We need those, too.
Today it was announced that the entire electrical team (my department) will be moving out into a trailer in the parking lot. That’ll be eight or ten people, all under a lot of pressure, working in very close proximity with no partitions, no privacy. There won’t be enough room for all the stuff we currently have in our cubicles, so half of it will have to go into storage. We can each bring our computer, tools, chair, and file drawers. The trailer arrives on Monday, and by the end of next week we’ll all be moved in.
I’m not a people-person. That’s why I went into engineering. Much more comfortable with machines than with people. This is not going to be good. Several of my coworkers have anger problems. One of them is constantly angry as a way of life. I shudder at the specter of future confrontations. Most of them use swearing as a form of punctuation or even as entire sentences. I dread the garbage continuously swirling around my ears. This will not be pretty. I wonder if I should bail now, cut my losses and run.
Photo note: our trailer won’t be as cool as this mobile radar unit, on display at the Pima Air & Space museum in Arizona.
