Sometimes smaller is better

Hello Ladies

Tonight’s youth group was small. We had six leaders and three youth. The evening’s speaker had wondered about canceling altogether. But no, we went ahead anyway. Many or few, we bring God’s Word to those who are willing to listen. A small group is always a concern though. Usually you need a certain critical mass, otherwise the whole thing falls flat.

We had a great evening.

The games were absolutely hilarious. As I was leaving home Debbie suggested I take her camera. It’s small and unobtrusive. Convenient. But I decided against it. With such a small group nothing exciting would happen, and I couldn’t be bothered. Boy, was I wrong. I regretted not having that camera.

The speaker’s message was excellent. Christ’s death and resurrection brings a complete change in perspective for how we view the world, how we view life. It was exactly what I needed after the gloom and despair of yesterday’s news.

In the chat and socializing after the program was over, one of the guys started to build a tower of chairs. I helped make an artistic, oh-so-precarious abstract sculpture that reached to the ceiling. Once again I regretted leaving Debbie’s camera behind.

It just goes to show that it’s unwise to predict the future, especially where God is concerned. Where we anticipate the failing of our weakness, He steps in and proves His power and strength.
